3 Aug - 24 Nov 2024 Group show ‘The New Generation: Asian Heritage in Ceramics’ at Bunjil Place Gallery, curated by guest curator Vipoo Srivilasa
https://www.bunjilplace.com.au/gallery
Bunjil Place Gallery is a relatively new public gallery in the municipality of the City of Casey, South-East Naarm/Melbourne. As the first public gallery in this region, the exhibition will be our first to focus solely on ceramics as a contemporary and experimental artform. The New Generation will illustrate the ways fifteen contemporary Australian artists of Asian diaspora are currently expressing form and ideas through clay- based mediums. Working within the parameters of a white and blue palette, each artist is invited to create new work in response to this proposition. The blue and white palette will be a unifying feature for the exhibition whilst also drawing upon the wider discourse of blue and white patterning, it’s historical connections to global movement, reinterpretation and commodification over time as cultural material.
Bunjil Place Gallery’s Curator, Penny Teale, and Registrar, Catherine Bennetts-Cash, will assist with information on the Gallery and will be supporting Vipoo in the planning of the exhibition’s display, it’s interpretation as well as the packaging, transport and handling requirements for your work.
Artist fee - $2,000 +GST
Bunjil Place Gallery will ensure that all costs involved in the insurance, freight, packing and handling of the work will be appropriately covered.
Timeline
Early 2024 - Guest curator, Vipoo Srivilasa will be your point of contact for discussing the exhibition, it’s concept and ideas surrounding the making of a new work. June 2024 - To support the exhibition promotion and interpretation we also request that each artist provide a short biography (up to 100 words) for publicity and promotion purposes and an artist statement (up to 250 words) to be presented in the exhibition as a didactic label alongside your artwork. https://www.manningham.vic.gov.au/events/childhood-cheeks-grown-madness
Nani Puspasari is a Chinese-Indonesian visual artist based in Naarm (Melbourne). Her latest exhibition Childhood Cheeks, Grown-Up Madness is an emotive exploration that beckons viewers into the subtle interplay between innocence and experience.
The canvas unfolds as a vibrant narrative, with expressive paint strokes sharing tales of enthusiasm and introspection, while whimsical clay forms add a tangible layer to the storytelling. This artistic journey transcends mere observation, offering a profound reflection on the paradoxical nature of the path to adulthood.
The installation stands as an emotional proof to the delightful chaos inherent in the shift from carefree childhood to the intricate realities of grown-up life. It urges individuals to embrace the enduring beauty found in the inherent madness of growth and self-discovery, even within the complexities of life, creating a space for a heartfelt exploration of the multifaceted layers of personal evolution.
